"Never let your obstacles be bigger than your goals".

Hi, everyone.

So after having plans cancelled today, I decided to have a "me day". A day to catch up with myself, do nothing and simply just relax. It was definitely needed after having a pretty long week (not to mention a week consisting of very little sleep).

So what did I do? I spent it eating (as always), listening to beautiful instrumental music (currently listening to "Canon in D Major"- piano version), and watching a movie (Eat pray love) whilst sipping on a nice hot beverage and munching on snacks of course.


I have to admit that it is not one of the best movies I have seen, but I do very much like the concept of leaving everything behind to go on a journey to seek information and to discover myself. I am almost certain that I am not the only person to have thought about packing my bags and buy a one way plane ticket out of here- right?


The movie teaches us that we do not need to be rich in order to be happy. We do not need to have a partner, be successful or have a stable career. What matters is finding the right balance. Only then will we be able to truly smile, even in our livers (you will understand this reference if you have seen the movie).


It made me think about what "balance" really is. But it also reminded me to be thankful every day, for everything that I have and for everyone around me. Let the little things in life keep us smiling every day.
It is human nature to worry and to stress over things that we cannot control. But that is the problem that we have. If we cannot control it, why do we let the problem control us?
Whether it be that horrible exam that you're dreading next week, the 2,000 word assignment you have been trying to avoid or an upcoming interview you are super nervous about... will it matter in 10 years from now? Heck, will it even matter this time next year? If not, why let it plague your mind?


Something that I had learnt in life is to stop worrying about all these "can't controls", and instead focus on what we CAN control.
For example, if it is raining outside, can we control it? No. Instead, go buy a coat, an umbrella, and let the world know that you won't let the weather affect your day.
If you are doing badly at school/ at work, can you fix it? Yes. Get your head in them books and simply work harder. "Nothing worth having comes easy and nothing easy is worth having" as the saying goes.


It's sad. we're all so focused on the negatives that we do not appreciate the positives around us. We're so clouded with expectations and pressure to do well that we often forget what it is that we really want.

I think that this has to be my favourite quote from the 2hr long movie. Life is too short for us to be so stressed and busy all of the time. We all deserve to stop what we are doing- even if just for a moment- and live.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that I am fed up of seeing so many people feeling sorry for themselves. I'm fed up of seeing people complaining over things that probably aren't even worth wasting time thinking about. And I'm fed up of seeing people "giving up" so easily when they have barely tried. It is so easy to say that you have tried, but realistically, how much time and effort did you REALLY put in? Probably nowhere near as much as you could have done.

It is super easy to fall down, and to stay down. But it is a challenge to pick ourselves back up again. And that's what most people are afraid of- the challenge. What we often forget is that it is obstacles that we face that brings us one step closer to our goals. I believe that we all have a goal in life, and a reason for living. Once you find that reason, once you find that passion inside of you, it will make everything else seem so much easier. The problems all of a sudden do not matter anymore. Why? Because that goal is so huge that it squeezes all the negative thoughts out of your head and pushes you to work harder. And until you reach whatever it is that you are aiming for, do not give up, and do not stop.


I guess the "balance" for me is to maintain a happy and healthy relationship with my boyfriend, to always appreciate and make time for my family and friends, to build on my career and keeping gaining experience, and to travel as far and as wide as I possibly can. Oh, and to inspire. One day, I want people to recognise my name because I had inspired them in some way or another. Perhaps through my positivity or through my work- who knows? 
Notice how none of what I mentioned revolves around "things", but instead on people and goals? But hey, everybody is different. Some people aim to buy a super nice apartment, a top-notch sports car, whereas others want to teach, want to climb the ladder of success or to have their work recognised. Whatever it is, do something today that will get you one step closer to wherever it is that you want to be. Stop giving up so easily, stop quitting and "just jump". 

I'll finish off with an inspirational quote by Steve Harvey: "If you do not jump, your parachute will never open. So you'll be safe, but you won't soar. So you gotta jump".
