Confessions of an inexperienced globetrotter

Hi, everyone!

White rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit. Cannot believe it is March already.
Today (well... technically yesterday since I am typing this post-midnight), my boyfriend and I went travel shopping- you know, to buy the usual travel essentials: suitcases, rucksacks, locks, comfortable shoes etc.

I cannot believe how fast time is going. In only 2 and a half months, we will be leaving the UK to start a new adventure together on the other side of the world. Scared? Yes. Excited? Even more!

No matter how many lists we write, how many phonecalls we make, and how early we start planning, I still don't feel mentally or physically ready yet. There still seems like so much more to do despite the basic bulk such as company fees, flights and suitcases being sorted, but then there are still visas and travel insurance that is lingering in the back of my mind (hopefully this will also be sorted by Monday).

I'm still not sure that I am able to leave the comfort zone that is my parents house to fend for myself in a country I am not at all familiar with. Australia... a dream place that I have always wanted to visit for a short holiday, but to live and work there for an uncertain amount of time... I'd be lying if I was to say that I am not scared. Leaving my family and friends behind in the UK and moving to a new country to meet new people; who wouldn't be, right? But they say that "on the other side of fear is success"- something only I can truly learn for myself.

Lost count how many times we sat in coffee shops planning & prepping for the journey ahead.

Luckily, I have my boyfriend Thomas to do this with me. He's the positive one who keeps us both focused and fired up. It's really great that we will go through these experiences together and have eachother there for support. I cannot wait for us to go hiking in Thailand, wash/ look after elephants, go bamboo rafting (if the weather allows us to) and of course- quad biking (I'M GOING TO WIN- the competitive monster in me is speaking again- woops)! That'll be the fun side of our traveling, but something else I am looking forward to is the practical side- going through the whole jobs process together in Australia and then coming home after a long day of work to cook, snuggle up and watch a movie before bed.

Thomas and I, taken Valentine's Day 2015 ♡

I don't know how everything will plan out, but I guess that is the beauty of it. Perhaps it is better to live for the moment and let the future slowly unfold. It may be difficult at times and we all come across different obstacles in life, but we are all strong enough to overcome it and to learn from each experience. I am confident that no matter what happens, both my boyfriend and I will learn a lot and have a bunch of memories we will look back on in years to come.

Take that jump, that leap of faith and just do it (as Nike suggests). It is better than regretting in the future when it may be too late.

Apologies for the lengthy post. I just felt like writing.
Happy Sunday/ Happy March!

Keep smiling, keep inspiring.
Love L x.

  6. This is a really exciting time for you and scary, as you said. I totally understand you. About one year and a half ago I left Madeira Island (Portgual) with my boyfriend and I traveled to the UK to start my career as a nurse. It is a big challenge and sure we miss our family as you will but you just have to believe in yourself and everything will be ok.
I would love for you to check my blog out, I recently wrote a post about what it feels like to come back home here - Rock Me Fabulous Blog - and I would love to have your feedback. Plus I think it is good for you to know other peoples experiences.. at least it helped me.

Australia is a big jump but I am sure you will love it. I have friends that are living there for 2 years now and they don't imagine their life in any other place now.
Keep in touch with us, write your adventures and challenges. I would love to read them xx
