Family, Friends, Travel, Work.

Hi, everyone!

I have been lacking time and energy recently, hence the lack of blogging. But today, I have had a sudden urge to write after a very inspirational conversation with one of our regular customers at work. It started when my boss questioned how and why this 70 year old man is still so hard-working. His reply: "I enjoy what I do, and I rather work than sit at home all day watching TV". I knew from there, an interesting conversation was about to spark.

I mean I always love being in the presence of positive people, and honestly speaking... there could not have been a better time than today to hear so many encouraging words. We jumped from one topic to another and I listened intently whilst he shared stories relating to family, friends, traveling and work. So here is my conclusion on the 4 topics-

Family:
This morning, our kettle at home suddenly broke... and my mum knowing that I like to drink coffee/ tea in the mornings to start my day ended up boiling water in a pan just so that I could have a cup of tea. Who else would go through the effort of doing that?! (I would have been happy to drink water). I say this all of the time but it really IS the little things in life that matter the most! Appreciate your family, and never ever take them for granted. We often think that our parents will be there for us forever, but sadly, that is not the case. Make the most of every day and every moment you spend together.

Friends:
Remember that nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. The most important thing is that we learn from them. If somebody did you wrong, or you did them wrong... "forgive and forget". Why hold a grudge when you can set yourself free from drama? It's great that we can choose our own friends and who we spend the majority of our time with. Surround yourself with positive people, and you too, will become more positive!

Travel:
Do it now. We always say that we would start something tomorrow. Our diets always start "tomorrow", our revision starts "tomorrow", everything starts "tomorrow". It's time to stop making up excuses and start NOW. This applies to traveling too. Yes, it is a scary thought, and yes, you will have to leave your comfort zone... but if not now, when?
Today, I was told, and let me quote: "We will all be on our deathbeds one day, and that is something we cannot avoid. Before you die, you won't regret the things that you did... but instead, you will regret the things that you didn't do". And although this saying has been circling the internet for years, it still hit me because I understood the truth and meaning behind the quote.
Live whilst you can, travel whilst you can, and do things that you don't normally do. Eat new things, try new hobbies, and explore the other side of the world.

Work:
A quick summary of my work life (just incase anybody is interested).
Sept 2010- May/ June 2012 = Year 1 and 2 of University.
June 17 2012- Sep 17 2012 = First internship.
Sep 24 2012- Mar 22 2013 = Second internship.
Apr 8 2013- Sep 1 2013 = Work.
Sep 2013- May/ June 2014 = Final year of University.
June 2014- Aug 2014 = Travel.
Aug 2014 - Present = Work.

It is safe to say that I have become a workaholic. How ironic because I hated studying. But if there is anything that I have learnt in my "career" (if you can call it that at this stage), is that you MUST enjoy what you do or else it would feel like a chore. Waking up would be a chore, sending work emails would be a chore, endless photoshop work would... you guessed it... be a chore!
Another quote from today: "We spend over a third of our lives working. The most important part is enjoying what we do. And as long as we enjoy it, nothing matters!". I could not possibly agree more. On another note, building a career may be important, but don't let your work life take over. Find the time to balance both family/ friends and work- money isn't everything, and although it may buy you all things materialistic, it cannot buy you love or happiness.

There's my two pence for tonight. Thank you to Stan, for all the encouragement and wise words earlier on; I needed the nice little wake up call. It is also safe to say that I have never seen such an energetic, ambitious and motivated 70 year old entrepreneur before. It would be an achievement to be even half as successful as him when I reach his age!

I'll leave you all with one final quote from him: "Age doesn't matter, as long as you have the mind for it". Funny I say that, because my boss today said that I am a 23 year old conversing like a 43 year old- I'll take the compliment!

Ps. How cute is my instax mini set? Ready for my travels.
Looking forward to filling up the album with more little moments!
Keep smiling, keep inspiring.
Love L x.

    1. Thank you! Yes, living in the moment is so important. We often take it for granted. And yeah, I find that sometimes the images come out a little brighter than anticipated but I guess it's just playing around with the settings. Hope you have figured it out now? x
