Australia, chapter 1

Hi, everyone!

I have officially been in Australia for 2 months today. Pretty crazy how time goes by so quickly, hey.
Do you guys remember 7 months ago when I announced that I would be flying to the other side of the world for an indefinite amount of time? Yes, it has been 7 months already! Previous blog post for those who would like to have a quick read: (http://www.lilysuen.co.uk/2015/01/hello-australiaaaa.html).

I said I would try update you all as much as I can, so here goes.

My boyfriend Tom and I arrived in Sydney on 21st June 2015. After being picked up in a "taxi" van kinda thing, we were dropped off at Wake Up hostel where we met and started our journey with about 30 others, all under Ultimate Oz (who have been great by the way!). My first impressions of Sydney? WHY IS IT SO COLDDDD.... I mean, could you blame me after being in 30+ degree weather in Thailand for the last month. It was cold and raining and reminded me a lot like England. Thank God I traveled in leggings and a hoodie! Looking outside the cafe we were lunching at, I was questioning whether we were really in Sydney, or Piccadilly Gardens (Manchester)? Obviously I had forgotten the whole season swap thing- Summer in UK = Winter in Australia and vice versa. Luckily, the weather has been much better after our first 2 days.

Monday morning, we were given a short briefing followed by a walking tour around the city. Lunch took place at Darling Harbour. This is when it started sinking in that we were indeed in Australia and a new chapter had begun. The tour ended at the iconic Sydney Opera House/ Harbour Bridge where we all took XX amount of tourist photos. After more exploring and getting lost around the city, we all met back up at Side Bar for unlimited pizza and wedges; who can say no to free food?!
The rest of our time with Ultimate Oz was awesome! We went from BBQ'ing on a harbour cruise to sandboarding in Port Stephens to chilling with Josie the kangaroo and bushwalking, taking in amazing scenery at the National Park, beach walks and late night drinking games knowing we had to wake up at 6am the next day. It didn't matter that everyone was from different parts of the world. We all had something in common and honestly, it was so nice being surrounded by like-minded people who just want to travel, explore and enjoy life!
We all went our separate ways but still keeping in touch with some of the "legends" we met and hope to re-unite wherever/ whenever in some other parts of Australia.

After constant traveling, Tom and I now had 2 choices: to carry on traveling and hope to find a job somewhere along the line or to settle down for a while, work, save and then do more traveling after. So we went for the sensible option and chose the latter- that would lead me to life right now.
We have been lucky enough to find jobs and a really nice apartment located in city centre and sharing with some lovely people from Taiwan and Brisbane. Although it's only been a month, it already feels like we're a little family. In fact, we're off out for Korean dinner tonight (again).

Weekdays are spent working then weekends, we'd like to jump on trains and buses getting lost around Sydney- making use of the $2.50 cap on Sundays! That being said, we have been pretty tired and lazy recently so catching up on episodes of "House of Cards" and "Suits" (yes, I know how behind I am) has been on the agenda a lot.

This post is becoming rather lengthy so I'll wrap it up here. Australia so far has been amazing! There are still so many things we're yet to see and activities we're yet to do. There is a long list of places we're yet to visit but in due time, I know that everything will happen and fall into place as they should. I still miss home and all the people there but I am grateful to every single one of my family and friends who has been there for me during my time away. I guess technology can be pretty good sometimes. I am also grateful for all the people who I have met since being here and excited to know there will be many more people we will meet along the way.

Keep smiling, keep inspiring.
Love L x.
